17) Ujjawala Scheme: 'Ujjawala- External website that opens in a new window' is a comprehensive scheme for the prevention of trafficking, rescue and rehabilitation of women and child victims of trafficking for commercial sexual exploitation in India. It was launched in 2007 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development-.

18) Two new schemes, Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme and Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme, are being launched in the Indian Interim Budget. The Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme will provide pension of Rs.200 to widows between the age groups of 40-64 years. The Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme aims to provide pension to severely disabled persons.

19) Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana. The Government launched Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana for BPL families in the unorganized sector on October 1, 2007. Up to January 15, 2009, 22 States and Union Territories have initiated the process to implement the scheme. The Government of India also launched the Aam Aadmi Bima Yojana (AABY) on October 2, 2007. The AABY is a Scheme for death and disability cover of rural landless in the country in conjunction with the State Governments. Upto December 31, 2008, the Scheme has covered 60.32 lakh lives.

20) Priyadarshini Project. In December 2008, ‘Priyadarshini Project’, which is a rural women’s empowerment and livelihood programme, was launched in U.P. with the assistance of IFAD. The project will be implemented as a pilot in the district of Madhubani and Sitamarhi in Bihar and Shravasti, Bahraich, Rai Bareli and Sultanpur in U.P.

21) Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA)in Sitto Village(Punjab) scheme under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM). Under the scheme, ASHA workers are not only trying to create increased health awareness among women, but are also trying to increase the manpower of the health department in the state.

22) "The main aim of implementing ASHA scheme is to decrease the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) which was very high here.

23) PM launches INSPIRE scheme (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research) on December 2008-It is a scholarship programme to 1 million students in next few years.

24) A scheme known as ‘Swadhar’ has been designed with a more flexible and innovative approach to cater to the requirement of various types of women in distress in diverse situations under different conditions. The Swadhar Scheme purports to address the specific vulnerability of each of group of women in difficult circumstances through a Home-based holistic and integrated approach.

25) Kishori Shakti Yojna (KSY) is a means to empower adolescent girls, so as to enable them to take charge of their lives. Under this scheme, a special intervention has been devised for adolescent girls, using the ICDS infrastructure. This intervention focuses on school drop-outs, girls in the age group of 11-18 years, to meet their needs of self development, nutrition, health, education , literacy, recreation and skill formation. This scheme attempts to mobilize and enhance the potential of adolescent girls as social animators. It also seeks to improve their capabilities in addressing nutrition and health issues-through center-based instructions, training capos and hands-on learning as well as sharing of experiences.

26) Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) is Government of India's flagship programme for achievement of Universalization of Elementary Education (UEE) in a time bound manner, as mandated by 86th amendment to the Constitution of India making free and compulsory Education to the Children of 6-14 years age group, a Fundamental Right.SSA is being implemented in partnership with State Governments to cover the entire country and address the needs of 192 million children in 1.1 million habitations.

27) Government of India has approved a new scheme called Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) for setting up upto 750 residential schools with boarding facilities at elementary level for girls belonging predominantly to the SC, ST, OBC and minorities in difficult areas. The scheme will be coordinated with the existing schemes of Department of Elementary Education & Literacy viz. Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), National Programme for Education of Girls at Elementary Level (NPEGEL) and Mahila Samakhya (MS).

28) The "Jansankhya Sthirata Kosh" (JSK) (National Population Stabilisation Fund) has been registered as an autonomous Society established under the Societies Registration Act of 1860. JSK has to promote and undertake activities aimed at achieving population stabilisation at a level consistent with the needs of sustainable economic growth, social development and environment protection, by 2045.

29) Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY): Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) is a new scheme announced by the President earlier in 2009, focuses on slum dwellers and the urban poor. This scheme aims at promoting a slum-free India in five years and would focus on according property rights to slum dwellers. The scheme will focus on according property rights to slum dwellers and the urban poor by the states and union territories.
It would provide basic amenities such as water supply, sewerage, drainage, internal and approach roads, street lighting and social infrastructure facilities in slums and low income settlements adopting a 'whole city' approach. It would also provide subsidized credit.
Allocation for housing and provision of basic amenities to urban poor enhanced to Rs.3,973 crore in the Union Budget 2009-10. This includes provision for Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY).

30) Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM): Cities and towns of India constitute the world’s second largest urban system. They contribute over 50% of country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and are central to economic growth. For these cities to realize their full potential and become true engines of growth, it is necessary that focused attention be given to the improvement of infrastructure therein. For achieving this objective, a Mission mode approach is essential.

31)JNNURM was launched on 3rd December 2005.

Objectives:
1. Focused attention to integrated development of basic services to the urban poor Security of tenure at affordable price, improved housing, water supply, sanitation;
2. Convergence of services in fields of education, health and social security
3. As far as possible providing housing near the place of occupation of the urban poor
4. Effective linkage between asset creation and asset management to ensure efficiency
5. Scaling up delivery of civic amenities and provision of utilities with emphasis on universal access to urban poor.
6. Ensuring adequate investment of funds to fulfill deficiencies in the basic services to the urban poor.

Sub Missions:

JNNURM comprises two Sub-Missions :
1. Urban Infrastructure and Governance (UIG) (Sub-mission I)
2. Basic Services to the Urban Poor Urban (BSUP) (Sub-mission II)
There are, in addition, two other components:
1. Urban Infrastructure Development of Small & Medium Towns (UIDSSMT)
2. Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme (IHSDP)


Some memorable points:
1. Maharashtra has the largest number of projects under the mission. (48 projects)
2. Gujarat has 44 projects under the mission
3. Andhrapradesh and Karnataka have 33 & 32 projects.
4. Bulk of the approved funds are for water supply , sewerage works and drainage supply.
5. The mission has a target to pump Rs. 100000 crore into 63 identified cities for 7 year term
6. Allocation under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) stepped up by 87 per cent to Rs.12,887 crore in B.E. 2009-10 over B.E. 2008-09 in the Union Budget 2009-10.
